Veras Academy started off the competition season with a bang by winning a gold, two silvers, and a bronze medal at the Dutch Open. Sensei Raphael Veras traveled to the Netherlands with a small squad of six to compete amongst some of Europe’s finest karate-kas. The star of the competition was Luca Veras, who fought his way to gold becoming the Dutch Open Champion, closely followed by Luan Veras and Vadim Druta who both won silver medals in their respective categories. Jack Gentili-Walsh won Bronze in the Under 12’s -33kg category. Both Liam Veras and Maggie Gentili-Walsh narrowly missed out on medalling this time round. Sensei Raphael Veras said “we traveled to the Netherlands to compete at the Dutch Open and all six of my athletes proved they are amongst some of the best karate-kas in Europe. It is so important for their development within the sport that they get to experience these international competitions. Each, regardless if they won or not, have come away having learnt something new and being even more determined than ever to succeed. I am beyond proud!”
